At first, your scratching awful noises will not let any Sim get their moves out on the dance floor. Once you're level 2, you can actually man a booth and allow Sims to dance to your music. The Ideal Mood for a DJ is Inspired, or so it seems - no other mood seemed to help, and it just makes sense.
This is the only interaction available at first. You can hire a DJ at home if you throw a party, selecting among 3 skill levels. They won't let you put that misery on others. You've got to practice on a booth at home. This means you can upgrade your booth and bring it with you to parties, and work for tips! The more expensive models can be used in club hangouts and places where large gatherings regularly happen. The first two DJ booths are portable, while the higher-end models are not. This is a Skill that requires direct practice, and not something you can learn from a book. Be forewarned, you can't make much money until later, so it's not a Skill you can rely on to pay the bills.
